World AIDS Day 2025
On December 1st, Namrup College successfully hosted a comprehensive awareness programme for World AIDS Day 2025, uniting seven key campus bodies, including the Green Life Society, NSS Unit, IQAC, and the Red Ribbon Club. The event centered on the theme, "Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response," aiming to empower the college community with current, evidence-based knowledge.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi, who underscored the crucial role of education in public health awareness. A key highlight was the student segment, where Ms. Trishna Gogoi, Nandini Kumari Gupta, and Ms. Nayanita Konch delivered insightful presentations aligning directly with the global theme.
The session was anchored by the resource person, Mr. Hijam Homandro Singh (Retd. HoD, Zoology), whose talk covered vital topics:
The significant decline in national HIV prevalence and infections.
The success of free Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) access.
Government initiatives and the goal of ending HIV as a public health threat by 2030.
Following the expert address, a dynamic Interactive Session successfully addressed student queries regarding current prevention guidelines and testing procedures, ensuring practical knowledge transfer.
Impact and Collaboration: The event successfully enhanced awareness, emphasizing that effective management and prevention are now highly achievable. The robust participation of 28 students and 9 faculty members demonstrated the power of inter-departmental cooperation, making the event a powerful reminder of the college's vigilance and commitment in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.
